Request for Feedback on Draft Curriculum of MSc Biotechnology updated under the Course Curriculum Revision Exercise of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India


The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India is undertaking a major exercise towards the revision Course Curriculum of Post-graduate teaching Programmes in Biotechnology. This comprehensive project is being carried out with assistance of Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL), New Delhi, a company promoted by DBT for facilitating commercialization of Biotechnology. We aim to develop a contemporary curriculum comprising of core foundation subjects, ability and skill enhancement courses, electives and dissertation with an emphasis of promoting skill development and entrepreneurship amongst students thus, shifting the focus from traditional theoretical knowledge to skills- and competency-based education and training. The revised curricula shall be structured to facilitate horizontal and vertical integration between multi-disciplines and bridge the gap between both theory & practice.


BCIL has constituted a Core Committee of eminent academicians, scientists and industry representatives for the revision of the curriculum of MSc Biotechnology. The objective of this holistic exercise has been to identify the areas in which the curriculum need updation through seeking views from all concerned stakeholders and developing need-based curricula in consultation with expert groups.
